Through storytelling, independent research, and publications, SoAR raises the profile of agricultural research through strategic communications.

We put faces and names to the farmers and scientists who are central to agriculture. We help our partners, peers, and elected officials understand the importance of agricultural research and the role they play.

We believe that effective storytelling is key to ensuring agriculture’s longevity and success, and will continue to tell compelling stories through multi-channel collateral including podcasts, video, social media, and articles.

Communications

SoAR was initially founded to increase funding for The Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI), the nation’s leading competitive grants program for agricultural sciences. Since SoAR’s beginnings in 2014, AFRI funding has grown from $325 million to $455 million annually.

SoAR remains committed to federal advocacy, informing and educating policymakers on the needs of the scientific community, producers, and the next generation workforce.

We host receptions and briefings, lead coalitions, and are leading advocates for agricultural research, continuing to contribute to the success of legislation such as the 5-year Farm Bill and annual appropriations funding for agricultural research.

Advocacy

Through SoAR’s network of skilled staff, board members, and our Science Advisory Committee members and their networks, we offer specialized consultation to solve agricultural science’s most pressing issues.

We convene experts, develop strategies to tackle sector-wide research bottlenecks, and develop the tools key stakeholders need to advance whole sectors of agricultural sciences.
