Dr. Ellen Bergfeld
Ellen Bergfeld, Ph.D., was Chief Executive Officer of the American Society of Agronomy (ASA), Crop Science Society of America (CSSA), and the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA)—an alliance of three organizations that cumulatively represent more than 25,000 members in the agronomic, crop, and soil science disciplines. She was also CEO of the Alliance of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Science Societies (ACSESS), the support organization that works to promote science‐based knowledge on behalf of scientific societies in the agricultural and natural resources arenas.
Before joining ASA, CSSA, and SSSA in 2003, Dr. Bergfeld served as Director of the American Society of Animal Science. She received a BA from Ohio State University and, after graduating with MS and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Nebraska‐Lincoln, worked in the office of Senator Kent Conrad (D‐ND) after receiving the Federation of Animal Science Societies Congressional Science Fellowship.
As a national leader in plant and crop science advocacy, Dr. Bergfeld has spoken to the Global Plant Council about the challenges facing global food production and agriculture and submitted comments on the importance of developing sustainable bioenergy and bioproducts sectors to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
