Carol Scheman is a senior advisor to the President of the Department of Defense’s academic health center: The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences where she was formerly the University’s first Vice President for External Affairs. There, she directed the University’s relationships with many different communities such as governmental agencies and the U.S. Congress.

Ms. Scheman has worked for many years with various coalitions in support of research and is a founding member of The Science Coalition, Research!America, and The Ad Hoc Group for Biomedical Research. For the past four years, she has been working for the Supporters of Agricultural Research. Ms. Scheman is also an independent consultant working with the higher education community, other not-for-profits and government organizations. She worked for Northeastern University as a senior vice president and organized their office of external affairs. She also served as The University of Pennsylvania’s first vice president for government, community and public affairs from September 1994 until July 2005.

Scheman was Deputy Commissioner for External Affairs of the FDA. She also served as director of federal relations at the Association of American Universities for thirteen years before becoming their vice president in 1991. Ms. Scheman serves on several voluntary boards including Women’s Campaign International, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Learning Ally.
